Our January concerts feature two “Cornerstones” of the quartet repertoire, both of which set the standard for everything that followed. We’ll begin with Mozart’s D minor, written in tribute to his teacher, Haydn, the inventor of the string quartet. The centerpiece of the program is Bartok’s monumental 4th Quartet, which redefined what was possible for a string quartet, and features one of the most beautiful and haunting slow movements ever written. The concert is followed by a catered reception, and all proceeds go to our free education program!
